Please check the resistance of the horizontal parts of the stirrups

On transferring a beam from Diamonds to ConCrete Plus, the message appears

[NL]: Controleer of de horizontale benen in staat zijn om de krachtswerking te weerstaan

[FR]: Vérifier la résistance des barres horizontales des cadres.

Solution

In Diamonds, beams can be loaded both in and out of the plane. This results in shear forces Vz’ and Vy’.

  • To resist to the shear force Vz’, the reinforcement quantity Awz is calculated. This corresponds with the vertical legs of the stirrups.
  • To resist to the shear force Vy’, the reinforcement quantity Awy is calculated. This corresponds with the horizontal legs of the stirrups.

Beams in ConCrete (Plus) an only be loaded in the plane resulting in Vz’,  Awz and an reinforcement amount of the vertical legs of the stirrups. Because a stirrup is always a closed shape, ConCrete (Plus) will extent the outer vertical legs of the stirrups to two horizontal legs. Resulting in Awy.

If you open a Diamonds beam with both loads in and out of the plane, ConCrete Plus will not verify if the assumed Awy is suffient to bear the shear forces out of the plane Vy (because ConCrete Plus is 1D). Thus ConCrete Plus will give the message above to warn you.

Example:

  • Diamonds calculated  Awz = 500 mm²/m. For a two-legged ⌀8 stirrup, the vertical legs have an area of 100mm²/stirrup. So you need 5 stirrups per meter to meet Awz = 500 mm²/m.
  • ConCrete Plus understands what Awz represents, and can verify the 500 mm²/m to 5 stirrups ⌀8 per meter.
  • Diamonds also calculated that Awy = 700 mm²/m. ConCrete Plus cannot verifry Awy represents. You should see that the are of the horizontal legs of 5 stirrups ⌀8 per meter are not sufficient to meet the requirement Awy = 700 mm²/m. Either you increase the stirrup diameter (or the distance) until the Awy = 700 mm²/m is met.
