How to open the results for an old model in a newer version (without recalculating)

When you open a project with a different version then the one it was calculated in, the results will be removed. Recalculating the model is necessary.

The reason for deleting the results is because Diamonds does not support inter-version compatibility regarding the results.

For example: Diamonds 202y contains a new feature and for that feature we had to implement an additional set of results. Then it’s not a guarantee that the results from a model calculated a different Diamonds version will be displayed correctly when opened in Diamonds 202y using the method below.

  • If you really want to be sure, install the same version has the one in whicht he model was calculated.
  • If you don’t have the time to do so, try the method below, but be cautions. Compare some results to for example printed results to make sure the results are well imported.

‘Solution’ to be applied with care

  • Open the *.bsf file with Notepad.
  • Search (CTRL + F) for ‘Designversionnumber1’.
  • Enter the desired release year, for example ‘2018’ for Diamonds 2018 r02:
     <DESIGNVERSIONNUMBER1>2018</DESIGNVERSIONNUMBER1>
  • Search (CTRL + F) for ‘Designversionnumber2’.
  • Enter the desired revision number, for example ‘2’ for Diamonds 2018 r02. If the version is Diamonds 2018 r00, then enter 0:
     <DESIGNVERSIONNUMBER2>2</DESIGNVERSIONNUMBER2>
  • Close Notepad. Save changes.

Note: because of the new section and material library in Diamonds 2017, this trick will not work between Diamonds 2015r06 (or older) and Diamonds 2017 (or a newer version). It will work between Diamonds 2017 and newer.
