Error 1053: Windows could not start the GATEWAY service on Local Computer. The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

When trying to start Gateway or Gateway server, you get the following error:

[NL]: Kan de Gateway-service op Lokale computer niet starten. Fout 1053: De service heeft de start- en stuuropdracht niet op juiste wijze beantwoord.

[FR]: Le service n’a pas répondu assez vite à la demande de lancement ou de contrôle.

Solution 1

  • Check if .NET 3.5 and 4.0 (or higher) are installed.
    • If not, install them. You can download .NET from the Microsoft website.
    • If yes, continue with the next steps.
  • Stop the services Gateway and GatewayServer
    • Open Task manager > go to the tab page ‘Details’.
    • Find BuildSoft.Gateway.exe > ‘End task’.
      If you cannot find BuildSoft.Gateway.exe in the list, just continue with the steps below.
    • Find BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe > ‘End task’.
      If you cannot find BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe in the list, just continue with the steps below.
    • BuildSoft.Gateway.exe  AND  BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe shouldn’t be in the list anymore.
  • Uninstall Codemeter (Control Panel > Programs and Features) and reinstall Codemeter.
  • Reset the Gateway preferences.
  • Start the services Gateway and GatewayServer.
    • Open Task manager > go to the tab page ‘Services’ > click on the button ‘Open services’ at the bottom of the screen .
    • Find Gateway Server > hit Start.
      The service should start without an error. If you do get an error (probably Error 1053), continu with solution 2.
    • Find Gateway > hit Start.

  • Start Diamonds/ PowerConnect / BIM Expert.

Solution 2

  1. Stop the services Gateway and GatewayServer
    • Open Task manager > go to the tab page ‘Details’.
    • Find BuildSoft.Gateway.exe > ‘End task’.
      If you cannot find BuildSoft.Gateway.exe in the list,just continue with the instructions below.
    • Find BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe > ‘End task’.
      If you cannot find BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe in the list, just continue with the instructions below.
    • BuildSoft.Gateway.exe  AND  BuildSoft.Gateway.Server.exe shouldn’t be in the list anymore.
  2. Uninstall Codemeter.
  3. Check if there are multiple Gateway installations present
    This can occur when you’ve upgraded Diamonds 2019 to Diamonds 2020.

    • Go to Control Panel > Apps and features
    • If there is only one Gateway in the list, go to step 3.
      If there are two Gateway’s in the list, skip step 3. Immediatly go to step 4.
  4. Uninstall Gateway using Control Panel
    • Go to Control Panel > Apps and features
    • Find Gateway in the list and hit ‘Uninstall’.
      If this goes without an error continue with step 5.
      If you get and error, continue with step 4.
  5. Uninstall Gateway manually
    • Verwijder de services:
      • Start Command Prompt (cmd.exe) as administrator
      • Write sc delete Gateway and hit ENTER.
      • Write sc delete Gateway Server and hit ENTER.
    • Go to the installation folder of Gateway C:\Program Files (x86)\BuildSoft\Gateway
      Delete that folder. If there are multiple folders called Gateway, remove them all.
    • Remove references to the installation in the registry
      • Open the registry (Start > Registry Editor).
      • Search (CTRL + F) for 42E409A0-3363-4CC1-BD64-9B7EA6226DAC in the path: Computer\HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
        If you find the key, detele it in the left column. If you cannot find it, continue with the steps below.
      • Search (CTRL + F) for 42E409A0-3363-4CC1-BD64-9B7EA6226DAC in the path: Computer\HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
        If you find the key, it looks like this. If you cannot find it, continue with the next step.

        Copy the path that is written in the key UninstallString. Usually it is: C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{42E409A0-3363-4CC1-BD64-9B7EA6226DAC}
        Detelet the key in the left column.
        Paste that path in Explorer and delete that folder from the C-drive.
      • Search (CTRL + F) for 0A904E2436331CC4DB46B9E76A22D6CA in the path : Computer\HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\*InternalUserId*\Products
        If you find the keydetele it in the left column. If you cannot find it, continue with the steps below.
      • Search (CTRL + F) for 0A904E2436331CC4DB46B9E76A22D6CA in the path: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
        If you find the keydetele it in the left column. If you cannot find it, continue with the steps below.
  6. Reinstall Codemeter.
  7. Reinstall Gateway.
